The Midnight Mission's Family Housing Program goes beyond emergency care by providing long-term solutions highlighting structure, accountability and opportunity. We remove the obstacles to self-sufficiency while our participant families learn basic living skills in a comprehensive and demanding 9 - 12 month program.
Listed are some of the ways in which we are able to assist residents:
- Individualized Case management.
- Counseling - individual and family.
- Childcare assistance and provision.
- Employment preparation and attainment.
- Budgeting and financial planning.
- Computer Learning Center for adults and children.
- Apartments at no cost to families.
- Household necessities and furniture.
- After-school activities and programs for the children.
- Family reunification and strengthening activities.
Upon entering our program, the family is given a variety of household items to get them started. Within 45 days of entering the program, they are required to obtain employment. At that time, they are expected to purchase their own toiletries. We continue to provide laundry soap, cleaning supplies, etc.
This service includes teaching basic fiscal management and developing a budget for the family. We also require that they establish a savings account and save 70% of their income. The Midnight Mission maintains an interest bearing account for the family, allowing them to leave the program with a substantial savings account.
When a family is ready to leave our program, they are equipped with life skills they did not have before, plus financial resources that allows them to move beyond reliance on government programs and other dependencies.
Intake Procedures
Client Intake is conducted daily as space is available. Clients are referred from our main facility downtown, local shelters, churches, substance abuse programs, domestic violence programs and government agencies. The Family Housing Program is not an emergency shelter and does not take families in off the streets. All referrals are required to complete an interview and screening process to determine eligibility for the program. Our Mission staff does, however, assist families with obtaining referrals.
